Latex pillows are frequently mentioned, but what exactly is latex, and why is it so popular?
How can you choose the right latex pillow for yourself?
How do you identify natural and high-quality latex pillows?
Let's find out!
What is Latex?
「Latex」 is a natural material derived from cutting tropical rubber trees, which secrete a milky white liquid. This liquid is then processed through low temperatures, emulsification, vacuuming, foaming, and heavy pressing to form the final material.
Why aren't natural latex pillows perfectly smooth?
Natural latex pillows are produced through a one-time vacuum foaming process. During this process, bubbles are formed, and each mould has injection holes and closure seams. As a result, the pillow surface may have irregular small holes, tears, granules, or missing corners. These are normal characteristics. Slight surface unevenness is not a quality issue and does not affect the pillow's usability.
Latex pillows may turn yellow over time due to natural oxidation from exposure to air. This does not impact their functionality.
Advantages of Latex Pillows
Latex pillows boast high resilience and excellent breathability due to their numerous open pores. Their high density prevents deformation, while the medium firmness conforms to the head, shoulders, and neck contours, offering superior support. Moreover, the natural properties of latex inhibit dust mites and bacteria, making them ideal for individuals with respiratory sensitivities.
How to Choose a Latex Pillow?
If you are concerned about toxic residues in latex pillows, we recommend selecting well-known brands or those that have passed safety certifications , such as SGS hazardous substance testing.
How to Identify Natural Latex?
Natural latex: Slightly yellow or off-white, with irregular pores.
Non-natural latex: Pure white, with no neatly arranged pores.
Smell - Odor
Natural latex: Faint rubber smell, like medical gloves, fades over time.
Non-natural latex: Non-natural latex pillows often have added chemicals, and manufacturers may use fragrances to mask the chemical smell. If the pillow smells particularly fragrant or has a milky scent, it may not be natural latex.
Touch - Feel
Non-natural latex: Smoother texture, easy to tear, and the surface may flake off.
