Latex Pillows
You've heard a lot about latex pillows, but do you know what they actually are and why they're so popular? How should you choose the right latex pillow for yourself? What makes a latex pillow natural and high-quality? Read on to find out!
What exactly is latex?
"Latex" is a natural material derived from the milky white fluid that flows or is secreted from tropical rubber trees after they are cut. This fluid is then processed into a shaped material through low-temperature treatment, emulsification, vacuuming, foaming, and high-pressure compression.
Why aren't natural latex pillows perfectly smooth?
Since natural latex pillows are produced by one-time vacuum foaming and shaping, air bubbles are generated during the foaming process. Moreover, each mold used for latex injection has injection holes and mold closing gaps. Therefore, it is normal for irregular small holes, tears,颗粒 or missing corners to appear on the surface of the pillow after demolding. The surface of every latex pillow will have some slight unevenness, which is not a quality issue and will not affect its use.
Latex pillows will turn yellow over time - This is due to natural oxidation when the latex is in prolonged contact with air; this condition does not affect the product's functionality.
Advantages of Latex Pillows
Latex pillows are highly resilient and have excellent breathability due to their multi-porous, open-cell structure. They are also dense and resistant to deformation. With a medium-firmness, they conform to the natural curves of the head, shoulders, and neck, providing excellent support. Furthermore, the natural properties of latex help to prevent dust mites and bacteria, making them suitable for individuals with respiratory sensitivities.
How to choose a latex pillow?
If consumers are concerned about toxic residues in latex pillows, we recommend that they choose well-known brands or latex pillows that have passed safety certifications, such as SGS hazardous substance testing.
How to distinguish natural latex? See, smell, touch
See - Appearance
- Natural latex: Slightly yellowish or off-white, irregular pores.
- Non-natural latex: Pure white, clean white; no pores at all or very neatly arranged.
Smell - Odor
- Natural latex: Faint rubber smell, similar to medical gloves, which will dissipate over time.
- Non-natural latex: Since non-natural latex pillows contain chemicals, manufacturers add fragrances to mask the chemical smell. If a latex pillow smells particularly fragrant or milky, be wary of it being a non-natural latex pillow.
Touch - Feel
- Natural latex: Slightly rough to the touch, but not easily torn,
- very resilient.
Non-natural latex: Smoother to the touch, extremely easy to tear, and the surface skin will peel off.
